The Huachipa Ecological Recreation Center is a zoological and botanical park. It is a beautiful natural refuge that has become an important effort for the conservation of the environment.
Here endangered species can be seen in open and properly maintained spaces. It includes diverse and large natural and recreational areas. It includes spaces for animals, gardens, parks, lagoons, recreational games, rooms for teaching courses and workshops, a library and a restaurant.
It is a very attractive alternative to spend a day in contact with nature. And while they are distracted, the visitor learns a little more about the diverse species of flora and fauna that inhabit the Peruvian and world territory.
Its collection includes 2,000 specimens corresponding to more than 300 species.
There are mammals (impressive felines such as the otorongo, the Andean puma or the lion; the beautiful spectacled bear, the mischievous sea wolves, the curious primates such as the white machin, the black maquisapa and the friar monkey; the huge tapir; the deer red; South American camelids such as vicuña and llama).
There are also wild birds with harmonic song and showy colors. There are the famous cock of the rocks, the huallata or Andean goose, the beautiful scarlet macaw, the friendly Humboldt penguin, a species in danger of extinction.
Or peaceful fish like golden barbel, goldfish and rainbow trout; the fearsome reptiles (white caiman, Tumbes crocodile, boas, iguanas) and the funny snapping turtles, charapas and taricaya.
The beauty of the park is enhanced by a wide variety of native and exotic flora.
Among the most important species are the tara, huarango, tamarix and carob (from the coast); the molle serrano, the quinual, mutuy, lloque and myth (from the sierra); cedar, mahogany, ceibo, topa, ishpingo, palm trees and the sought-after orchids (from the jungle).
The Forest of Birds
It is the home of the Peruvian bird species. It consists of a wonderful replica of the jungle where botanical species brought from the Amazon have developed, adapting favorably to the climate of the coast.
There are more than 370 species between ornamental, medicinal and fruit plants that can be seen if you walk a path over wooden bridges and under splendid waterfalls, among the joyful noise of wild birds that fly around.
It is nice to appreciate how animal species such as parrots and macaws, wood pigeons, toucanets, white herons, fish and turtles coexist in this place, as if they were in the jungle itself.

It has parking for cars, toilets, restaurants and a picnic area to enjoy a nice lunch. In addition to telephones and a first aid room.
For the little ones there are recreational games and an interesting Pirate Ship. A lagoon for boat trips, and a Museum Room that permanently exhibits ceramic samples from different cultures and various historical periods.
