The Arco de la Rosa is the old western gate nestled in the walls of medieval Cádiz. It is currently located next to the Cathedral of Cádiz, in the Plaza de Pío XII.
This wall was built in the 13th century in the times of Alfonso X the Wise. On the origin of the name there are two theories: one says that it is named in honor of a homonymous Marian invocation that had a nearby chapel; the other, which is named for the arch after Captain Gaspar de la Rosa, who lived in the city in the 18th century. Called Arch of Santiago in times, to give the suburb of the same name, where fishermen used to meet; It was restored in 1973.
