The origin of the Convent of San Francisco dates back to 1602, when it was built according to the mannerist style of the city. The Franciscans occupied the building from 1609 until the liberal revolt in the nineteenth century.
The church has simple lines and monumental proportions and in its cloister articulates erudite and vernacular elements.
Its current use is a space for cultural events, but it has served as a facility for a wool factory that has operated for many years in Coimbra.
Located at the foot of Santa Clara Hill, just below the Santa Clara Monastery in Largo Rossio de Santa Clara - Coimbra
Its interest in tourist terms, is essentially related to its modest facade, but with some details worked.
