San Mateo Beach is one of the few beaches that the city of Valparaiso has, as much of the coast is occupied by the port. It is located next to the Shelter Mole and the old Emerald Battery, at the beginning of Avenida Altamirano, en route to Playa Ancha.
The beach began to emerge artificially in the late sixties as a result of an expansion determined by the municipality of Valparaiso. The enclosure has changing rooms, showers, lifeguards and kiosks for the sale of soft drinks and food.
The beach is occasionally used by the Chilean Navy for training and landing amphibious and ground troops and vehicles. In your environment, immersion instructions are also performed by the Navy itself.
Despite its meager 150 meters in length, this beach is a favorite with the public due to its complete equipment and swimming safety. There is also a saltwater pool where children have fun.
It features: newspaper stand, public telephone, public toilet, changing rooms, showers, parasol hire and sun loungers.
