These Ruins correspond to a small rectangular fort of military origin built in the XVIII century, replacing another located near there dedicated to Saint Ignatius, which was destroyed by the earthquake of 1775, collapsing with the cliff.
The Fort, or Zavial Battery, would be part of a set of military batteries that integrated the defense of the coast of Lagos, together with the Fort of Meia Praia.
By the time of construction of this Fort, the Zavial was already an important fishing community, that was important to protect.
At the moment, the construction is in Ruins, endowed with the abandonment and destroyed in the context of the Peninsular War of century XIX.
