The Roman theater of Cádiz is located in the Pópulo neighborhood. Found in 1980, it was built by order of Lucio Balbo ´´el Menor´´ in the first century BC and is one of the largest in the entire Roman world (although it has not been fully excavated), only surpassed in Hispania by the Corduba theater, whose diameter of the cave was 124.3 meters, while that of Gadir had a diameter of the cave of 120 meters. Cicero speaks of its use for personal propaganda of Balbus in his Epistles to relatives.
According to archaeologists, this finding confirms the greatness of the city of Gades, which had a population census of over 80,000 people when the city dominated the Atlantic trade and was one of the most prosperous cities of the Roman Empire.
The theater was discovered by chance in 1980 by a warehouse fire. It was located under the foundations of the ´´Vigorito, S.A´´ foundry and had been integrated into the farmhouse since the Middle Ages, which is why a wall fragment with three lintel spans above street level is preserved.

An inscription in cryptographic form that read Latro, Balbe (Balbo, thief) was found on the site that Balbo was to use. [78] There is a project to build a Reception and Interpretation Center for the Roman Theater of Cádiz on the same site that currently occupies part of the coliseum. [
