Built in 1200 AD to worship the jaguar. The rock carved figure of a pair of jaguars stands out, around which altars for ritual offerings were built. With the conquest of the region by the Incas, in the middle of the 15th century, the cult of the solar divinity was imposed and that is how the original structure was covered with red clay.

In it you can see architectural structures both from the lithic period, belonging to the Formative period, dating from about two thousand years before Christ (1st and 1st century BC)

In the Temple of Pumatola, the engraved figures of two pumas were found in 1989 and 1990: male and female, symbolizing the duality that day and night, water and fire, earth and sky meant for the natives.

Ceremonial center where human victims were sacrificed and surely, at least on certain occasions, to ask the gods for abundant water (rain) and good

harvests.

19 km from Huancabamba (1 hour by car) in the district of Sondorillo, is the hamlet of the same name.

Constructed of red clay, blood color. Color that constitutes a cultural element that has not been randomized, nor is the white color of the walls. For the indigenous, these two colors gave a message to the people who came there: a code of communication between the religious authority and the people.

The discovery of three steps that served as entrance to the Temple of the Jaguars of Mitupampa, the head of a feline, a puku (or bishops) with which they made very fine fabrics and a piece of ceramic, discovered by the researcher Mario Polía, confirms that the temple of the Jaguars is unique in its kind and belongs to the formative stage.
