The Lasar Segall Museum was created as a non-profit Brazilian civil association created by the widow of Lasar Segall artist Jenny Klabin Segall and created by the couple's sons Mauricio Klabin Segall and Oscar Klabin Segall.
Located at 111 Berta Street, Vila Mariana, Sao Paulo, it is housed in Lasar Segall's former residence and studio, designed in 1932 by his brother-in-law, Russian-born architect Gregori Warchavchik.
In 1985, it was incorporated into the Pro-Memory National Foundation, which is now part of the Brazilian Institute of Museums (IBRAM), of the Ministry of Culture, as a museum unit. The Lasar Segall Museum's main objective is to conserve, research and publicize Lasar Segall's work, with a collection of around three thousand works by the artist, donated by his children, as well as a personal and photographic archive, reaching over six thousand cataloged items. . The Museum also has a library specializing in performing arts, with one of the largest collections in South America. The library called Jenny Klabin Segall has books that have belonged to renowned critics such as Lopes Gonçalves, Georges Raeders and Anatol Rosenfeld.
