Located in Covão do Boi, in the heart of Serra da Estrela, the Senhora da Boa Estrela, patron saint of the shepherds, was built in low relief on the rock, inaugurated in 1946.
The sculpture, more than 7 meters high, was elaborated by António Duarte, starting from an idea of the local parish priest who attended the demonstration of local faith when a Cruzeiro was implanted in the highest point of the immense Serra da Estrela, and wished to pay homage to the Holy Protector of the Pastors who have faced for centuries the inclemencies of the agreste region.
Annually, on the second Sunday of August, the Festivities of Our Lady of Boa Estrela do Covão do Boi are held, attracting many visitors.
