Heroes' Square (Hungarian: Hősök tere) is one of the most important squares in Budapest, capital of Hungary. It is located at the end of the Andrássy avenue (with which it is part of the declared World Heritage Site called Budapest, with the banks of the Danube, the Castle District of Buda and Andrássy Avenue), near the city park.
It is surrounded by two important buildings, the Budapest Museum of Fine Arts on the left and the Palace of Art (or Museum of Art Exhibitions) on the right. On the other side is Andrássy Avenue, with two buildings facing the square, one residential and the other the embassy of Serbia (former Yugoslav Embassy, where Imre Nagy took refuge in 1956).
In the center of the square stands the Millennium Memorial (also known as the Millennium Monument or Millennial Monument), a collection of special relevance in Budapest, with statues of the leaders of the seven Magyar tribes who founded Hungary in the 9th century and other personalities in Hungarian history . The construction of the memorial began when the thousand years of the country were celebrated (in 1896) and only finished in 1929, when the square was given its present name.
On June 16, 1989 a crowd of 250,000 gathered in the square to celebrate the historic burial of Imre Nagy, executed in June 1958.
It is served by the Budapest Underground.

In the row of right columns (from left to right): João Corvino, Matias Corvino, Stephen Bocskai, Gabriel Bethlen, Imre Thököly, Francisco Rákóczi II and Lajos Kossuth.
In the central column: Archangel Gabriel (at the top of the pillar). Around are the seven Hungarian tribal chiefs: Árpád, Előd, Tas, Huba, Töhötöm, Kond and Ond.
