This building was built in the mid-18th century by the knight of Malta, Vicente Távora and Noronha, and was later inhabited by other descendants until in 1850 it was sold to a merchant, António Afonso Velado, who in 1866 was decorated Barão do Freixo and three years later Visconde do Freixo. This owner replaced the coat of arms that existed there - arms of the Távoras, by his own - Afonso and Cunha's shield - and he had great works done in the interior. However the excessive modernism that distorted the primitive character of the building.
Further alienation of the farm and palace resulted in great devastation in the gardens and, in the interior, the progressive ruin by the application, the deposit, of sacks of flour produced in the mill built near the building. In the gardens there are still traces of curious clusters.
The palace has a rectangular plan with protruding turrets in the corners, covered by pyramid-shaped slate roofs, which add one more floor to the building, except on the side of the staircase where there are windows at the same level in the central part. The balustrade that runs on the noble floor is ornamented, as well as the turrets, with urn-shaped pyramids, topped top in tip.
The facades of the palace are all different. The most beautiful and the most imposing is facing west. The central zone is served by a large staircase whose pediment that finishes the face is richly decorated, being noted a balustrade in which the levels are decorated with dolphins and garlands.
On one of the façades, a crown of nobility, which is sometimes indicated as a marquis, is preserved as a vestige of the heraldry of the primitive owners, topped by a dolphin, a timbre of the Távoras. Worthy of attention are the balconies with granite balusters, some windows.
The Palace also has a huge garden, with beautiful terraces typical of the time, in which the Italian influence is felt.

The Pousada preserves the whole facade of its buildings, classified as a National Monument since 1910 and consists of two distinct buildings that are connected: the Palace, where the restaurant, bar, living rooms and meeting rooms are located, and the old one Harmonia Mill, where you will find the rooms, some of which have a magnificent view over the river.
The charm of the locality, its gastronomy and the great capacity of the space give the ideal receptivity so that the Pousada becomes the environment of choice not only for leisure but also for big events, meetings and meetings.
