Funchal is a Portuguese city on the island of Madeira, capital of the Autonomous Region of Madeira, being the ninth most populous city in Portugal.
The port of Funchal is a tourist center of significant importance for European cruises that make stops to Morocco, the Canary Islands, the Caribbean and Brazil, and was the first stopping point on the maiden voyage of the Queen Mary II.
Funchal still preserves most of the streets and paths of the primitive city of the sixteenth century.

Lovers of good regional cuisine have a full plateau in Funchal, even more because its typical gastronomy has its own characteristics, with some notes of exoticism present in delicacies such as garlic vinegar, moganga (pumpkin) or wheat soup , boiled yams, fried corn satay, honey cake or caco cake (typical wheat flour bread), not to mention the use and abuse of many local fruits like purple passion fruit or papaya.
